Some tasks in your home get done every day, like washing dishes and doing laundry. However, other items don’t need to be done quite as often and as a result, often go ignored until a problem arises. The first of the year is a great time to take inventory and make a checklist of these tasks that need to be accomplished on a yearly or monthly basis.
Getting gas and regular car washes are usually at the forefront of your mind when it comes to the car. But replacing wiper blades, washing car windows inside and out, and cleaning out spare change are sometimes forgotten. Add these things to your checklist on a bi-monthly or quarterly basis. Every time you get an oil change (usually every three months) is a great time to do this as well.
Things can definitely start to pile up in the kitchen when overlooked. Unused condiments get shoved to the back of the fridge, empty cracker boxes sit in the back of the cabinets, and lidless Tupperware containers never get used.
Choose a month to go through cabinets and cupboards to get rid of unused items. Run ice cubes, lemon juice, and baking soda through your garbage disposal once a month to freshen it up and get rid of old smells. Also, add to your list cleaning the stove hood and refrigerator coils.
Home Living Functionality
Next, move onto your living areas. Move furniture to vacuum or dust underneath. Wipe off coffee tables and dust entertainment units, including TVs. Choose a month to go through this room and change light bulbs (and note which kinds of bulbs to purchase for the future), wash throw pillows and blankets, and hang those photos you just haven’t gotten to hanging yet!
Bedroom and Bathroom Cleaning
Cleaning out your closet is a great way to make space, making it easier to put clothes away, live, and navigate your relaxation area. Rotate your mattress and dust off bedposts and bedside tables. Throw away expired or empty products from the bathroom. Clean shower heads and rinse out garbage cans.
